What are the Differences and Functions of the Switches We Use Every Day?

Dec. 11, 2020

Are the travel switch, limit switch, and proximity switch that you see everyday just a kind of name? Are there any small differences among the three, and will this small difference affect our selection? As a Magnetic Switch China Supplier, share with you.

Magnetic Switch

Magnetic Switch

Travel switch: It is a switch that determines the on-off of the circuit by the displacement of the object. Both the travel switch and the limit switch are position switches, but the travel switch can detect the travel and can be used as an input signal to control the circuit to move at a certain distance.

Limit switch: It can be installed on relatively stationary objects (such as fixed frames, door frames, etc., referred to as still life) or moving objects (such as driving vehicles, doors, etc.). When the object is close to the still life, the connecting rod of the switch drives the contact of the switch to cause the closed contact to break or the open contact to close. The action of the circuit and mechanism is controlled by the change of the switch contact opening and closing state. Limit switches can also be divided into rotary limit switches and straight travel limit switches.

Proximity switch: Proximity switch is also called non-contact travel switch. In addition to complete travel control and limit protection, it is also a non-contact detection device, used to detect the size of parts and speed measurement, etc., can also be used for frequency conversion counters, Frequency conversion pulse generator, liquid level control and automatic connection of processing programs, etc. Features include reliable work, long life, low power consumption, high repositioning accuracy, high operating frequency, and adaptability to harsh working environments. Performance characteristics Among all types of switches, components that have the ability to "perceive" objects approaching it.

The difference between the three: 1. The proximity switch is a non-contact switch with a longer life span and is suitable for "passing signals". 2. The limit switch (also called the travel switch) is a contact switch, which is suitable for unidirectional position detection. Due to the contact, the relative life is shorter. 3. The travel switch is also called the limit switch. Both the travel switch and the limit switch are position switches, but the travel switch can detect the travel and act as an input signal to control the circuit at a certain distance. Different from the limit switch detecting the limit position signal, it plays the role of stop and protection.
